Within seconds, she says a man show up in a tow truck, handed her an Inner City Automotive business card, offer to tow her car.

And when the NYPD showed up? Ingrid says he missing and then re-appeared after the cops left. This tow truck driver, Ingrid says pressured her not to allow the police to call another tower.

Her says Alexis told her us she let him tow it, she wouldn't pay a dime. Except it turns out the other driver had no insurance. Since Ingrid was not covered for collision, there was no insurance money to claim. But when she tried to recover her car? Ingrid says, Inner City charged her $5,000 for storage. Suddenly, she was on the hook for the tow charge and sixty two days of storage.

And defraud customers, saying they are licensed and they are not. Inner City Automotive cannot claim to be just a repair shop they are showing up at accident scenes trying to tow people’s cars.

Inner city insists, despite the writing on the wall and their paperwork, it did not tow Ingrid's car. After we showed up, Inner City offered to take four thousand bucks off her storage fee. DCA is now mediate her complaint and attempting to get this resolved happily for her.

The big takeaway, if you are in an accident ONLY the police can call a tow company. But if you are not in an accident and you need a tow, when the tower shows check for a valid customer affairs license and a medallion. And be on the watch for rogue towers that show up at accident scenes, many are unlicensed.

Towing company owner charged with dealing heroin

Two Philipsburg area men are in custody after a 3-month drug investigation.

Rebel Towing owner John Lorraine Bowes, 33, of Decatur Township, Clearfield County, and his employee, Walter Lee Wagner, 42, of Philipsburg, were arrested Tuesday after the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation North Central Strike Force served search warrants at the towing company on Curve and Moshannon streets in Rush Township, and Bowes’ Walton Street residence.

According to police, the arrests were the conclusion of an investigation that began in December. Troopers said they observed and identified individuals buying and selling heroin at the towing service.

In March 2014, in secret troopers began making controlled purchases of heroin, police said in a statement. During the inquiry, numerous customers who purchased heroin from the business were identified along with the sources of the heroin.

Warrants served in Centre and Clearfield counties at the two properties netted heroin, drug things and about $21,000 in cash.

Bowes was charged with at least 14 felony counts of produce, delivery or possession with intent to produce or deliver and at least seven counts of misdemeanor possession, as well as plan to manufacture, deliver or possess and criminal use of a message facility.

He is lodged at Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Wagner is charged with two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver and one charge of conspiracy, as well as misdemeanor possession charges. He remains at Centre County Correctional ability in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Court blocks Chapel Hill towing rules

The North Carolina Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Chapel Hill suspend enforcement of new towing regulations while a lawsuit over the rules is appealed.

Chapel Hill adopt towing rules in February 2012 to cut down on complaints about predatory towing, but the order never took effect because towing company operator George King challenged them and a local ban on using cell phone while driving.

King argued that the combination of the 2 ordinances would harm his business, saying that his drivers would be cite for using a cell phone in responding to calls from people seekingto recover their towed cars.

A Superior Court judge threw out both ordinances last year (2012), but the state Carolina Court of Appeals reversed the ruling 3 weeks ago, saying King had not shown any harm from either order. Chapel Hill intended to begin enforcing the towing rules Monday while holding off on the cell phone ban while driving.

The rules would require 2 zones to be properly marked, set fees towing companies can charge, require them to accept credit or debit card expense, consent that they inform police before towing any vehicle and ban impound lots from being more than 15 miles from town. King asked the state Supreme Court Monday to review the Court of Appeals ruling.

US Supreme Court rules in NH towing Company

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled generally that federal trucking laws do not per-empt a state claim against a New Hampshire towing company

The court ruled Monday in a Manchester case connecting Robert Pelkey, who lived at an apartment building complex in 2007 when he had to go a hospital for pollution and suffered a heart attack. He used a handicapped parking spot, and left his car parked there while he was hospitalized.

The car was towed by Danes City Auto Body when it was not moved during a winter parking ban and then sat in the towing business lot for 2 months. The shop supposed it was abandoned. It finally took ownership of the car and traded it.

Pelkey sued Danes City Auto Body under the Consumer defense Act. The case finished up in the New Hampshire Supreme Court, which upturned a superior court finding and ruled in his favor.

The lawyer for the tow company appealed, citing central trucking laws that were passed in the 1980s to unify trucking and tow system among all the states.

Local towing companies complain to parliament

Local towing companies asked the Steuben County parliament Monday morning to create a fairier method to call for help with traffic accidents. Robert Dickinson, of Cajun Towing in Ark port, and several other towing company parliaments, said dispatchers and police are playing favorites when calling for assistance with traffic accidents.

We want a fair revolution, Dickinson said. All that is happening now is they’re openhanded all the calls to one company, T & R Towing & Services. Kristen Klemenz, of B & W Towing of Gang Mills, said it’s not an efficient for Steuben County to rely on one company.

There are 15-20 companies willing to serve and help Steuben County, Klemenz said. We are all answerable towing companies here to serve Steuben County and known in our community.

The towing parliament spoke during the public comment period of the Legislature meeting. Legislators did not address the matter during the meeting.

The Legislature has not said if they will meet with towing companies to discuss the issue. The towing companies met in early February with Steuben County Sheriff Dave Cole and Bath-based New York State Police Capt. Rick Allen.

We would love to meet with the county Legislature, Dickinson said. I have spoken at their meetings 2 times before and have not heard anything. I guess I will have to wait to see if anything happens from this. But if it does, I am ready to meet with them, to work something out that will work for all of us.
