Automatic towing comes with a hefty fine

Local wreckers are wrecking pocket books. Owner of LADS 24 hours Wrecking Service, Peter Pellt, said the well is state regulated.

If you park somewhere where there are signs, where it's limited parking for a certain property and someone has you towed, the maximum you may charge is $250. Pellt said. I probably would have die to be here for an hour and a semi and be towed and pay that. Williams said.

But before the price was state regulated, tow wheels were paying a lot more than that; upwards of $500 in some city. There are very small manners that happen after the second or third trip from bar to bar at night. Leaving all sorts of residue on the other people's property and not cleaning it up." Pellt said.

There are ways to avoid that towing fee.

If we are hooked up or in the process of loading and you come out, we're to release the car at no charge. Pellt said. But that only if you have extraordinary timing, or if your car was towed illegally. Pellt said illegal hookups happen a lot in Lubbock, often by what he calls mosquito trucks.

They go grab a truck in the parking lot, haul it a block or two. Drop it in the street; go get another on the property and another one. He said. "Then send one of these bigger trucks to bring back 2 or 3 at a time to the yard.

If a vehicle is dropped on the street or at other belongings, the wreckers have no power to pick it up again. If you can prove that is what happened, you can get your cash back via the courts. Other than that, it's likely your money will be locked up just like your car, especially if you are a student.

With Tech kids, it happens about 5% of the time. Pellt said.

  1. Once I parked in a place that claimed to have a no parking sign (I still don't believe them) and they towed my car and charged me a lot of money. Luckily the towing company in Surrey was really good to work with and they helped me out.

  2. I was wondering, how expensive does it get for towing in Las Vegas NV? My Grandpa lives there, and he says that it can get pretty pricy.

  3. I have walked up to a towing truck hooking up my car to tow it away and he still made me pay to take it down. The spot I parked in did not have a No Parking sign, so I argued with him for a few minutes before finally paying the $80 or some odd dollars to have it released. Needless to say, if you're in the Martinez area and need a trustworthy, friendly and respectable towing service North Main Tow is your place.
